About BlancBot

Why did BlancBot visit my site?

Because someone ran an audit of one of your pages on Blanc. It visits only when a person asks, never on its own schedule, and it does not follow links or crawl the rest of your site.

What does it fetch?

Per audit: the page that was entered, your robots.txt, llms.txt, llms-full.txt, sitemap.xml and /BingSiteAuth.xml, plus one public DNS lookup of your domain’s TXT records (through Cloudflare’s public DNS, not your server). A ChatGPT Ads readiness check fetches the page a second time with tracking parameters added, to test that the link still works. Pages are read up to 2 MB and requests time out after 6 seconds.

How does it identify itself?

Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; BlancBot/1.0; +https://heyblanc.com/bot)

How do I block it?

Block the user agent above in your firewall or server settings. Because each fetch is started by a person checking a page, it does not treat robots.txt rules as permission to visit. If it is blocked, the person running the audit sees a message explaining that a firewall stopped the check.

Does it pretend to be another crawler?

No. It never uses the user agent of Googlebot, OAI-AdsBot or any other company’s crawler.
